hirestaff was founded after we noticed a gap in the healthcare sector. In 2020, the turnover rate for nurses was 38.1%, one of the highest staff turnover rates in the UK. A driving factor is the recruitment market’s emphasis on “filling in seats” quickly, which often ends in poorly matched representatives.
There’s evidence that a high level of turnover has an impact on care quality. One issue is around continuity of care. If a patient or a care home resident sees a different nurse every day, that’s going to affect the quality of their care and emotional and physical wellbeing. Many of those in care are vulnerable and have complex needs and an understanding of them is built up over time. When healthcare staff are changing constantly, the chance to build personal relationships is missing.
